BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, August 7, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
We noted last week that “baby turf races are either dream or nightmare trips” and the one we selected had a little of both. Doctor Davis lost his footing at the start but soon rushed up to take the lead and was looking really good at the furlong pole until he got a bit roughed up and stopped. Meanwhile our other key, Ohtwoohthreefive bumped with the eventual big-time winner at the start but also got into contention fast, chased and engaged Doctor Davis at one point but then ran out of energy but still managed to complete the trifecta and work into the super as a key. The 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens had a decent week with two others scoring at Saratoga (one heading a BreezeFigs exacta), plus two at Delaware and a solo at Prairie Meadows. The 3-year-olds maintained their steady pace with four wins at Ellis Park (BreezeFigs exacta), Golden Gate, Monmouth and Saratoga. Today’s cards are loaded but no first-timers among the 3-year-olds but plenty on the baby card. We found one that looks intriguing, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-Year-Olds:
Saratoga, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 Miles (Turf)
Same track, same conditions, another duo—the only thing different from last week is that this one kicks off the card. Two BreezeFigs colts are making their debuts in here and the morning line looks like each could be worth a shot. The aptly named Dripping Gold posted a six-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSMAR with a 26.58 foot stride length (SL) that was just under three feet (yes, three feet) longer than average for colts that day at a furlong—no wonder he sold for $300k. On the other hand Morning Thoughts breezed at the same sale the next day and posted a solid one-over-Par Group 2 profile with a 24.30 foot SL—about a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. He only brought $47k but is worth a look here as well. Depending on the board Dripping Gold might be your key but Morning Thoughts should also be in your gimmick thoughts. Good luck!
