BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 6th, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Our 2-year-old Pick made us look somewhat smart when Theory got in off the AE’s to gallop as a best-thing-ever at $3.30. Unfortunately, our upset choice, Port More, was not in the hunt—but another BreezeFigs horse, Reckling, whom we did not fancy, got up to complete a $20.60. Thank you very much, lucky star. The 3-year-old Pick, Conquest Neighpalm, stunk out the joint at Gulfstream. Meanwhile, there were 13 other BreezeFigs 2-year-olds which broke their maidens last week: four more at Saratoga (including another exacta), two at Delaware, one at Del Mar, two at Gulfstream, one each at Laurel, Monmouth, Thistledown and Woodbine. The 3-year-olds also did well with two breaking their maidens at Saratoga and one each at Laurel, Penn National and Presque Isle. Saturday's cards are crammed with opportunities and a couple of buried treasures (we hope), see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
3-Year-Olds:
Ellis Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, Seven Furlongs (Dirt)
Bought back (RNA) for $145k at OBSAPR last year (not noted in PP’s) after throwing in an impressive six-over-Par Group 1 effort, Guess First has an opportunity to show whether his 25.26 foot stride length (SL), which was over two feet longer than average for colts that day at one eighth, is good enough to handle this field. We think it is and he’s the key here.
2-Year-Olds:
Delaware Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
Unusual distance and configuration gives all three first-timer BreezeFigs colts a chance here. Unusual Cat posted a one-over-Par Group 2 profile at EASMAY with a 24.90 foot SL, which was more than a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at an eighth. He was not sold, however (RNA) as 23k. Ponti Premonition had an even-Par Group 3 profile at OBSAPR with a 24.65 foot SL which was a foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. He was also unsold at 14k. Mr Grey (Fr) is the intriguing one from a connections and pedigree point of view, but his two-under-Par Group 3 effort at OBSAPR may have been better than that because he had a 24.72 foot SL, which was a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. We kind of like him as a saver, but all here should be considered in your gimmicks. Good luck!
