BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 30 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
First, some housekeeping: As has been our custom, Monday, Labor Day, will be the final 3-year-old card for BreezeFigs 2013. If they haven’t started by now, most of them may not make it before the next 2-year-old season. Of course, we were proven wrong on this count last Sunday at Parx when the only BreezeFigs horses on the card, Sookie and Miticketcecilia, won the third and eighth races, respectively—in each of their first starts. And, of course, to rub it in, the other three maiden winners from the 2013 sales last week won in their second starts: Best Effort at Del Mar, and Versimilitude and Marsh Creek at Saratoga. Still, that’s the plan and we’ll stick to it. As for the 2-year-olds, we will report but simply cannot comment on our Pick of last week because of the tragedy which occurred as our choice, Ludicrous, was making his move and broke down (another BreezeFigs horse, Bayerd, won and paid $19). As for the overall maiden successes, Bayerd was one of 16 of them across the country in a week when there were six BreezeFigs gimmicks. The gimmicks were, in order, from Friday through Thursday (prices reflect $2 and $1 bets as listed in charts):
· Friday, Arlington, 9th race, One Go All Go-Be Nice Coach $44.80 exacta;
· Gulfstream, 10th race, Awesome American-Exclsuive Symphony, $288 exacta, with R Javy’s Dream, $441 trifecta, and Minningsgotmsic, $165 ten cent superfecta;
· Sunday, Del Mar, 3rd race, Light the City-Make the Sun Shine, $21.80 exacta, $20.40 quinella;
· Sunday, Del Mar, Into Oblivion-Sandy’s Song, $27 exacta, $26 quinella, with Revenue Virginius, $555 trifecta, and Dr. Fager’s Gal, $3,456 superfecta.
· Wednesday, Del Mar,4th race, Holiday Maker-Mothernaturespell, $47 exacta, $51 quinella;
· Wednesday, Saratoga, 5th race, Majestic Blook-Forma’s Joy, $264 exacta.
The other maiden winners came at Charles Town, another at Del Mar, Ellis Park, another at Gulfstream, Indiana, Parx, three more at Saratoga (incuding Bayerd), and one at Woodbine. Today’s cards are once again loaded, and we have found a couple of interesting plays, see below. Good luck!
Remember to pay attention to two changes we’ve made over the past several years. First, there have been changes in the CLASS EDGE category (at the bottom of the BreezeFigs card) because one sale was eliminated (OBSFEB) and FTFFEB is now in March (FTFMAR), and that moved OBSMAR into a higher class. Also, in the SALE & HIP column: the “HIP” refers to the catalogue number for that horse in that sale. This reference will enable you to go to the website of the sales company involved and easily find the short video of the horse’s breeze at that sale.
The web links for each sale are listed in the NOTES section of the new BreezeFigs Report and you will find all the information as to why we have done this and how you can benefit from this addition to the service by downloading the document which explains it all here: http://static.drf.com/PDFs/breezefigs/BreezeFigs2009Sales.pdf. Remember, no other handicapping service can give you the advantages you need from 2-year-old sales, So sign up for DRF-Plus on the front page of www.drf.com and get the BreezeFigs cards.
Our rules still hold about BreezeFigs “qualified” runners: You can get a good idea of what “qualified” BreezeFigs horses are by clicking on BreezeFigs Information underneath the two BreezeFigs links in the DRF-PLUS box in the right hand column on the www.drf.com home page and downloading files there. Remember, keep stride length (SL) in mind when handicapping from the BreezeFigs sheet and take advantage of all the tips that we provide on those sheets as well.
If you click here http://static.drf.com/PDFs/breezefigs/StrideLengthStudy-1.pdf you will get a document which details our latest study. The conclusion for those who like to know the bottom line fast is this: When it comes to 2-year-old racing only, horses that earned Group 1 or Group 2 BreezeFigs and had longer-than-average stride lengths at the five major 2-year-old sales of 2006-07-08-09 won more races, won earlier, and earned more black-type, than horses with shorter-than-average stride lengths, regardless of BreezeFigs Group. There’s a lot more to it than that, and a review of this document, which is the first in a series, will strengthen your hand at the windows, or, if you are a buyer, at the sales or claim box. So, download it and absorb.
Also, refer to a study we did which shows that using BreezeFigs for 3-year-old maiden races in just as viable as using them for 2-year-old maiden races. Go to the DRF PLUS box on the www.drf.com home page, click on BreezeFigs™ Information, and then download “2006 Sales Study,” or just click right here: http://www1.drf.com/breezefigs/breezefigs_010507.doc.

Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Saratoga, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)
The only BreezeFigs horse in this race is in a clever “Saratoga: barn and though he will likely not have speed from the get-go, Frammento might be able to come along late at this distance and nail the others. His one-over-Par, Group 2 effort at FTFMAR featured a slightly longer-than-average 24.13 foot stride length, and he did it nicely enough to catch our eye—and it was on dirt. Catch him in the gimmicks at a minimum.
Del Mar, 1st Race, Maiden Claiming (80k to 70k), 6 ½ Furlongs (Synthetic)
Cruisingtheharbor zipped a 21.3 quarter at OBSJUN with a 27.38 foot stride length, almost four feet (yes, your read it right) longer than fillies that day at a quarter mile, good for a Group 2 nine-over-par profile. She’s in for a tag in her debut, so we’re suspicious, but you might want to monitor the situation to see what’s up and go from there. Lady Danger had a poor profile at OBSAPR and showed it was likely to be correct in her debut. Good luck.
