BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 29th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Both of last week’s Pix could have put some change in your pocket, especially when Sheikh of Sheiks came through at a surprisingly generous $15.20 at Saratoga. Our 3-year-old Pix¸ran OK at Delaware to finish third and fourth in generous trifecta and superfecta payoffs. It was a good week for BreezeFigs juveniles as an even dozen broke their maidens across the country, including a BreezeFigs exacta/quinella/trifecta at Del Mar on Sunday involving first-timers which didn’t pay a whole heck of a lot, but it was better than loose change. Besides Sheikh of Sheiks, another one broke its maiden at Saratoga, three came home on top at Gulfstream, and there were solos at Arlington, Delaware, Ellis, Indiana, Monmouth, and Presque Isle. Over on the 3-year-old side, only two broke their maidens, at Finger Lakes and Gulfstream, and that’s a portent because there aren’t many left. Remember, no more 3-year-olds after Labor Day, and today’s card has no first-timers, so we will concentrate on the babies, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-year-olds - Saratoga, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight 6 Furlongs, (Dirt)
This one has a couple of potential stars in it, both first-timers, both from the same sale, EASMAY. Virga posted a four-over-Par Group 1 profile at a quarter of a mile with a 25.77 foot stride length, a foot and three-quarters longer than average for colts that day at that distance. He was led out of the auction ring unsold, however (RNA) at 160k. Midnight Surfer, on the other hand, fetched $200k after posting a two-over-Par Group 2 profile on the same day, but at a furlong, where his 24.68 stride length was more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average for colts at that distance that day. We liked him as a yearling and also at EASMAY and give him the nod over Virga, but both are solid gimmick plays. Good luck!
