BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 22nd by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Our Pix last week were pretty much on target. We told you Mom’s Choice was the way to go at Arlington and that Impeccable Lady would be a good gimmick play at a price. Mom’s Choice won at $4.80 and Impeccable Lady was third to complete the trifecta ($45 for 50 cents). At Monmouth, we thought Sweet Soul Music was definitely worth a gimmick play and he finished second at good odds to complete a $146 exacta. Overall it was a sterling week for the BreezeFigs crowd. Six 3-year-olds broke their maidens at Delaware, Del Mar, Ellis, Gulfstream, Indiana, and Penn—remember, Labor Day will be the last 3-year-old card. The juveniles went slightly wild with 18 maiden winners: In addition to Mom’s Choice, four came at Saratoga and three at Gulfstream, including two bombs on Friday the 14th that paid $88 and $45, the latter kicking off a $241 BreezeFigs exacta. Two popped up at Remington, and there were solos at Delaware, Finger Lakes, Laurel, Monmouth, Penn, Presque Isle, Sunray and a BreezeFigs exacta at Woodbine. We found two intriguing Pix today, one on each card, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-year-olds - Saratoga, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight 6 Furlongs, (Dirt)
This one is a mess. Six BreezeFigs first-timers in this one, and we didn’t really like any of them that much except for their numbers. That would not include Ussery’s Alley, nicely named, but a four-under-Par Group 3 at FTFMAR who was scratched after posting a poor 22.55 foot stride length, almost a foot-and-a-half shorter than average for colts that day at a furlong. The morning line tips toward both Forevamo and Sheikh of Sheiks, with Biaviian and King Kranz in double-digits, and Virga an also-eligible. Sheikh of Sheiks has the best profile, six-over-Par Group 1 at EASMAY with a 24.38 stride length, almost half-a-foot longer than colts that day at a furlong. Virga comes out of the same sale at the same distance on different day with a 25.77 foot stride length, a whopping 1.77 feet longer than average, but was not sold (RNA) for 160k—sneaky play if he gets in. Forevamo had a solid one-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR at a quarter mile, and his 24.24 foot stride length was very decent and a third of a foot longer than average for colts that day. Both Biaviian and King Kranz come out of OBSMAR with different credentials. Biaviian posted a four-over-Par Group 2 profile and a 25.97 foot stride length—two feet longer than average at one furlong that day, astounding. King Kranz posted a two-over-par Group 2 profile with a 23,85 foot stride length, about an eight of a foot below average on a different day. This race looks like luck might carry the day, but there will be a lot of speed and we are looking for Sheikh of Sheikhs and Biaviian to be the ones you might want to key upon.
3-year-olds - Delaware Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Turf)
Tillicum might be a sneaky thing in here. He comes out of EASMAY more than a year ago with a five-over-Par Group 1 profile that featured a 23.61 foot stride length, a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at an eighth of a mile. Greg Rules Da comes out of the same sale with a Group 2, one-over-Par profile and a much longer stride length at the same distance, 24.63 feet, more than a foot longer than average on a different day. He’s had two starts in April down south which were strange, so he may be a gimmick play at the best, but Tillicum could be used as a key if he’s ready. Good luck!
