BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, August 22, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Despite two “meh” Pix last week, it was a decent week for BreezeFigs maidens as a lucky seven among both the 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds broke their maidens. Del Mar stole the spotlight among the juveniles with three winners, plus BreezeFigs exactas were wrapped up at Monmouth and Parx, with a BreezeFigs trifecta at Woodbine and a solo at Arlington. The 3-year-olds won at Arlington, Del Mar (BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream (two), Indian (two) and Laurel. In addition, a 2-year-old BreezeFigs exacta was posted in the Bolton Landing Stakes at Saratoga by Tobys Heart and Joy’s Rocket on Wednesday. Today’s card features no exciting firsters on the 3-year-old scene but there are two among the juveniles that kick off their respective cards and look special—but won’t return a heck of a lot if they come in, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Saratoga, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
There are two BreezeFigs colts in here—After Five in the body of the race and Ampersand on the MTO. We don’t see any rain in the forecast and you are not likely to get much more than a farthing or two on After Five based on his connections and the fact that he scored a 10-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSMAR with a 25.98 foot stride length (SL), a foot-and-three-quarters longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. He is built to love the weeds and should do the job here. If the weather gods throw a clinker, Ampersand would not be a bad choice based on his one-under-Par Group 3 profile at OBSAPR where his 24.22 foot SL was a half-foot shorter than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. If it stays on the turf you need to key in on After Five.
Del Mar, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Princess Noor comes in here as a “talking horse,” having garnered over a million bucks after she scored a two-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSAPR with a 25.69 foot SL, more than a foot and a quarter longer than average for fillies that day at a quarter mile. Avisse threw in an even-Par Group 2 effort at a quarter mile on a different day at that sale with a 24.06 foot SL, a bit longer than average that day. Lady Mo bombed in her first start which was not reflective of her 11-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSMAR where her 24.49 foot SL was more than half a foot longer for fillies that day at a furlong—real puzzle but then again she only sold for 26k at a pricey sale so maybe something was off. You will have to key Princess Noor, of course, but the other two are worthy of gimmick consideration. Good luck!
