BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 19, 2017, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
A dirty nose prevented our 2-year-old Pick Airtouch from getting his picture taken, and our 3-year-old Pick didn’t really lift a hoof in her belated debut. Stuff happens. Meanwhile, the 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens are exploding with victories, 15 of them coming home on top, at: Arlington, Delaware (two, one BreezeFigs exacta), Del Mar (two, one BreezeFigs exacta), Ellis Park (BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream (four, two BreezeFigs exactas), Prairie Meadows, Sunray, Saratoga, and Woodbine (two). Four 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won last week, at Gulfstream, Indiana, Presque Isle and Saratoga. The numbers have dropped because so many of the 3-year-olds have already won, and as has been the case in previous years, we will end the 3-year-old cards with the one posted on Labor Day. Indeed, there isn’t a first-time starter on that card Saturday which teases our interest. On the other hand, there are tons of 2-year-old first-timers on the card, with one of them sticking out, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-year-olds:
Gulfstream Park, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Dirt)
She’s not likely to want much more than five furlongs and she isn’t likely to be a big time star, but Speed Star has the BreezeFigs credentials to hammer here. She posted an 11-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR with a 23.91 foot stride length (SL), two-thirds of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. The other BreezeFigs filly in here, Mighty Fine, breezed a quarter mile on the same day and posted a three-under-Par Group 4 profile with a 23.37 foot SL, which was almost a fifth of a foot shorter than average that day. Speed Star brought a final bid of 50k and is generously listed at 9-to-2 in the morning line; Mighty Fine brought 60k and is 10-to-1. We think Speed Star is good enough to be a key and you might want to throw Mighty Fine in a gimmick. Good luck!
