BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 18, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Both our Pix in last week’s 2-year-old race got walloped around at some point during the race but Speed App managed to close well to get a piece of the trifecta with his stablemate just ahead of him. Our 3-year-old Pick was scratched and there were only four BreezeFigs maiden winners from that class during the week, two at Monmouth and one each at Finger Lakes and Fort Erie. (NOTE: The 3-year-old cards will end on Labor Day as always). The 2-year-olds won all over the place with 17 breaking their maidens at: Arlington, Canterbury, Del Mar (six including two BreezeFigs exactas), Evangeline, Gulfstream (two), Indiana, Prairie Meadows, Santa Rosa and Saratoga (three). Saturday's 3-year-old card has no firsters, and the 2-year-olds are all over the place with good opportunities but one caught our eye, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Saratoga, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Four BreezeFigs colts are in here, two first-timers with Ahead of Plan likely to be favored based on his 5-to-2 morning line and connections. He comes out of OBSAPR with an eight-over-Par Group 1 profile and a 26.08 foot stride length (SL), more than a foot-and-a-half longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. The other firster, Pointer View, comes out of OBSMAR with a nine-over-Par Group 1 profile and a 26.00 foot SL—more than a foot-and-three-quarters longer than average for colts that day at a furlong—yet he’s 12-to-1. Maybe that’s because he’s on the rai which can be dicey at The Spa. One of our previous Pix, Cromwell Avenue, is back in here and he could be dangerous based on his six-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR where his 25.71 foot SL was more than a foot-and-a-half longer than average; he was victimized in his debut by bad luck and could very well be involved here. High Sheriff had a two-over-Par Group 2 card at OBSAPR on the same day but his 23.10 foot SL was a foot shorter than average; his debut was on the weeds and not at all encouraging. This is a rare opportunity to focus on three horses with much higher than average BreezeFigs and stride lengths and it very well might mean watching the board before you pick which one looks like the key, but use the other two in your gimmicks. Good luck!
