BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 15th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
We’re not saying we would have picked the winner as part of a key gimmick play, but two of the three horses we really liked in last week’s Pix finished second and third resulting in a $166 exacta, $96 quinella and $2,472 trifecta. Sometimes you have to just shrug. There was no shrugging, however, for 14 BreezeFigs 2-year-olds who broke their maidens last week, six of whom were the top part of gimmicks. Six of them came home at Del Mar, including two who headed BreezeFigs exactas, one who headed a BreezeFigs trifecta, and another who topped a BreezeFigs superfecta. Four won at Saratoga, including the top one in a BreezeFigs superfecta. Two won at Delaware, one at Ellis Park (BreezeFigs exacta) and one at Penn National. Over on the 3-year-old side, six BreezeFigs maidens won, one each at Belle Terre, Charles Town, Del Mar, Gulfstream, Ruidoso, and Santa Rosa. Today’s Pix may not pay off in big balloons, but they’re worth a shot, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-year-olds - Arlington Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight (Illinois-Bred), 5 ½ Furlongs, (Synthetic)
Mom’s Choice is listed at 9-to-5 in the morning line, and her one-over-Par Group 2 performance at OBSMAR backs that up a bit, especially considering she had a 24/69 foot stride length, more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at one furlong. Impeccable Lady came out at OBSAPR with an even-par Group 2 effort that featured a not-so-good 22.30 foot stride length, three-quarters of a foot below average for fillies that day at the same distance. Mom’s Choice is good enough to single, but you might want to look at the board to see if you want to include Impeccable lady in your gimmicks.
3-year-olds - Monmouth Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, One Mile (Turf)
It’s taken more than a year for Sweet Soul Music to get his act together, but this EASMAY graduate posted a four-over-Par Group 1 profile with a solid 24.48 foot stride length in his work, a foot longer than average for colts that day at one furlong. However, he was not sold (RNA) on a final bid of 19k, which means he had some issues, but he looks like a very playable gimmick horse here. Good luck!
