BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 12, 2017, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
We are back from the Saratoga yearling sale where we were jammed for time last week to file our column, but now we’re ready to rejoin the fray. Sixteen BreezeFigs maidens won last week—10 2-year-olds and six 3-year-olds, and six of those wins came at Saratoga, so pay attention. Broken down by age, the 2-year-old winners came at Delaware (BreezeFigs exacta), Del Mar (two, both BreezeFigs exactas), Ellis Park, Indiana (BreezeFigs exacta), Prairie Meadows, and Saratoga (four, one a BreezeFigs exacta). In addition, there was a BreezeFigs exacta in a stake at Delaware. The 3-year-olds won at Belterra, Del Mar, Finger Lakes, Gulfstream and Saratoga (two). Saturday's card ranges far and wide, with multiple opportunities available, two of which are highlighted below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
3-year-olds:
Delaware Park, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
We are repeating what we wrote for the July 1st Pix—because she was scratched and re-appears here: Miss Al Dila has a good turf pedigree and a very decent BreezeFigs profile. She posted a two-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR last year with a 23.94 foot stride length (SL), which was three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at one eighth, on synthetic. She looks like she should be included in gimmicks.
2-year-olds:
Saratoga, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)
This could turn out to be a key race for the 2-year-old season. Airtouch is the only BreezeFigs colt in this race, and on the surface his profile is somewhat mixed. He posted a two-over-Par Group 2 ticket at FTFMAR but had a 23.16 foot stride length, which was a half foot shorter than average for colts that day at a furlong. There may have been an issue in that breeze but he did attract a final bid of 675k, which you won’t see in the PP’s because he was not sold (RNA). This could be a quality colt and he’s in the right barn and is 5-to-2 in the morning line. Get down on him as a key and then sit back and watch what could be an exciting debut, and likely a very good race. Good luck!
