BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 11, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Apologies for no column last week—we were working the Saratoga yearling sale which requires almost dawn to dusk effort. Anyway, our Pix from two weeks ago worked out OK. Our Saratoga special, Coast, got fried with a questionable ride but our gimmick Pick Absolute Aiden won the race and paid $17.,80. Our Arlington Pick was scratched. Last week there were 10 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens that won, and eight 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens that got off the schneid. The juveniles were heavy in the BreezeFigs gimmick department with winners at Del Mar (three, including two BreezeFigs exactas); Ellis (two, including a BreezeFigs superfecta); Gulfstream (BreezeFigs exacta); Prairie Meadows and Saratoga (three, including a BreezeFigs trifecta and BreezeFigs exacta). The 3-year-old winners were all win bets only at Del Mar (two), Ellis, Suffolk and Saratoga (four). Today’s card is loaded with interesting opportunities, two of which are below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Saratoga, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)
Two nice BreezeFigs first-timers are in here, with Speed App likely to fight for favoritism. He was not sold for $72k (RNA) after a good three-over-Par Group 1 effort at the tony FTFMAR sale where his 24.49 foot stride length was just a tad below average for colts that day at an eighth on the dirt. He was sent back at OBSJUN on synthetic where he sold for $165k following a two-over-Par Group 2 performance which featured a 24.78 foot SL on synthetic, just a tad above average for colts that day at a quarter mile. On the rail is Laughing Fox whose four-over-Par Group 2 effort at OBSMAR featured a stunning 26.09 foot SL, more than a foot and three-quarters longer than averaged at an eighth. No wonder he was sold for $375k. We think both could be elevated to keys depending on the board, but they are definite gimmick plays.
3-Year-Olds
Ellis Park, 4th Race, Maiden Claiming ($5,000), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Mo Zin threw in a perfectly acceptable two-over-Par Group 1 performance at EASMAY last year with a 23.75 foot SL, more than half-a-foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. But she was scratched (SCR) before the sale began (this does not appear on the card for some reason), so she obviously had an issue which has taken more than a year to deal with. Proceed with caution even though she is 8-to-5 in the morning line, but a modest gimmick play might do. Good luck!
