BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 2nd by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Getting off a bit slowly in a mile race on the turf at Tampa Bay requires that a horse be pressed to get position, and it is obvious that Determined, our Pick last week, wasn’t capable of doing that in his debut, though he did close belatedly to finish fifth. Tab him back at a longer distance. Meanwhile, it was a very short week as far as BreezeFigs maidens were concerned with only 45 of them getting to the gate—but nine of them won, a 20% strike rate. Five of those wins came on last Saturday’s card, including a BreezeFigs superfecta at Oaklawn which threw off some modest payoffs for exacta ($18 for two bucks), trifecta ($34 for a buck) and super ($10 for a dime) players. Hey, take what you can get, right? The winners last week were well spread out with three at Santa Anita, two at Gulfstream, and solos at Aqueduct, Golden Gate and Tampa in addition to the Oaklawn bonanza. Not many first timers today, but we found one which might be worth a shot, see below. Good luck!

In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. Here’s Saturday’s Pix: Gulfstream, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/8 Miles (Turf)
Going that extra sixteenth may be what Lilting will need in this field of very well bred fillies who need the weeds. She was scratched (SCR) before going through the ring after her one-under-Par Group 3 performance at OBSMAR last year. However, she impressed us enough with her good motion and her almost a foot-longer-than-average 24.80 stride length to encourage us to recommend a definite gimmick play as the lone BreezeFigs entry. And if the board looks a bit lively, you might want to up that ante. Good luck!
