BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 18, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Well, one of the Liam’s Map colts we liked last week won—Colonel Liam was put up on a DQ and paid a generous ten bucks considering all the hype he received. Unfortunately, the longshot we liked two races prior, Liam’s Boy, got off slower and after being pushed to catch up spit it out and finished up the track. Still, it was an OK week for BreezeFigs maidens considering the limited racing opportunities with two more winners at Gulfstream and another at Oaklawn. And, surprise, surprise! Gulfstream snuck in the first baby race of the season, so even though only one sale has been completed (OBSMAR) we will activate that file next week.(No BreezeFigs horses were in that race). Today’s card has us up a tree: We only concentrate on first timers, but there is a really big caveat emptor in one of them, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Gulfstream Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, One Mile (Turf)
We truly like El Samuro in here because we tabbed him as a turf horse at OBSMAR with his was of going and three-over-Par Group 1 ticket that featured a 25.48 foot stride length (SL), which was a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. Unfortunately (an inexplicably to us), he is entered for main track only, and even though there is a 60% chance of rain, we would not hold out much hope for this one to come off the weeds. But if it does, key him. Good luck!.
Gulfstream Park, 12th Race, Maiden Claiming ($12,500), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
There are three BreezeFigs fillies in here, and the one with the better profile, Party Dress OBSJUN, three-over-Par Group 2, 24.23 foot SL), ran poorly in her two previous starts last August. Rack Daddy, with the second best profile (OBSAPR, two-under-Par Group 4, 24.26 foot SL) had two poor efforts in September. That leaves Starship Daphne, whose four-under-Par Group 3 profile at OBSJUN featured a 24.32 foot SL which was a quarter foot longer than average that day, and that works for us in this group. She looks like a soft key opportunity. Good luck!.
