BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 14, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our “gimmick toss in,” More Honor, decided that he was better than that, going off the slight favorite and coming home on top to pay $7.40 and kick off two nice gimmicks. Our top choice in the race, Alfareed, got roughed up early and went too wide to gain a placing, but should be tabbed back. It was a fairly quiet week on the BreezeFigs maidens front for 3-year-olds but the first 2-year-old race of the season with a BreezeFigs horse went off at Gulfstream on Thursday and Sweetsweetsweet got bashed around at the start but still managed to finish fourth, so tab her back as well. As for the 3-year-olds, seven broke their maidens: Aqueduct (a BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream (three), Oaklawn, Penn National and Santa Anita. Here’s something to note: two Keeneland stakes had entrants on the cards and BreezeFigs horses won both: Analyze It in his third start and Gas Station Sushi (love that name) hooked up with Uppercut for a BreezeFigs exacta in their second starts off long layoffs. Saturday's card has several opportunities and we’ve selected two that might work out, see below. Good luck!
NOTE: There will be no column next week because we will be buried under a ton of work at OBSAPR
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Parx Racing, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Perfect Ice is the only BreezeFigs colt in here, on the rail, and he has some really nice Group 1 numbers from OBSMAR last year where he was four-over-Par with a 25.63 foot stride length (SL) which was 1.43 feet longer than average for colts that day at an eighth. But he only went for 20k, and that could be because he is not the most graceful mover in the world, so you might want to watch the board and use him in gimmicks accordingly.
Tampa Bay Downs, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 Miles (Turf)
We can say the almost the same thing for the only BreezeFigs filly in this race, Native Angel, as we did for Perfect Ice above: on the rail, four-over-Par Group 1 at OBSAPR, SL was 23.79, half-a-foot longer than average for fillies that day at an eighth. She, too, did not wow the fans with her motion, but there is enough time in this race for her to gather herself and make a run for it, so, to repeat: you might want to watch the board and use her in gimmicks accordingly. Good luck!
