BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, April 13, 2019, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our second-in-a-row 9th race Pick at Gulfstream didn’t turn out well either as Noble Lion was probably pushed a little too early to get into contention and faded in the last quarter mile. Otherwise it was a good week for BreezeFigs maidens with 11 of them breaking their schneids at: Aqueduct (three), Evangeline, Gulfstream (three), Oaklawn, Parx, Tampa Bay and Turf Paradise. Also this week Keeneland came back into the 2-year-old sales market and put on KEEAPR, a small but possibly significant number of 47 horses to add to the growing 2019 files along with OBSMAR and FTFMAR. Next week the OBSAPR extravaganza begins with six days of breezes and four days of sales—we will be there but our column will not because of the tight schedules. See you in two weeks. But look for the 2019 file on the BreezeFigs page every day—you never know when the sales horses will start to appear. Meanwhile, we have decided to give Gulfstream one more shot this week—but not the 9th race—see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Gulfstream Park, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Company Store heads three BreezeFigs colts in here, one from each Ocala sale last year, but the PPs don’t show that he breezed at OBSMAR because he did not sell (RNA) at 45k after he posted a six-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a basically average 24.33 foot stride length (SL) for colts at an eighth that day. He must have had a vet issue at the sale because it’s been a year, but if he is in one piece, this is a nice horse and should be considered strongly. Wonder In came out of OBSAPR with a $100k price tag and a five-over-Par Group 1 profile which featured a 25.05 foot SL, almost half-a-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. Canny connections help. Glory of Florida has made three starts and his record accurately reflects his one-under-Par Group 3 profile at OBSJUN where his 23.80 foot SL as about a third of a foot shorter than average for colts at an eighth. Company Story and Wonder In are good enough to key and Glory of Florida has a good gimmick chance in a bulky field where positioning will count. Good luck!
