Stonehedge homebreds swept both divisions of the Florida Sire Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park, where Breeze On By outgamed Gatsby to win the $100,000 Dr. Fager and Go Jo Jo Go won her maiden in the $100,000 Desert Vixen.

The races were for 2-year-olds at six furlongs. They are part of an annual restricted series.

Breeze On By ($3.40) backed up his impressive debut win with a stakes victory when he fought off Gatsby through the lane in the Dr. Fager. Breeze On By broke well and set fractions of 22.37 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.68 for the half-mile before covering the distance on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:10.85.

A length back in second was Gatsby, who was 8 1/2 lengths clear of third-place finisher Boca Boy.

Breeze On By debuted in a maiden special weight July 12 at Gulfstream and won by six lengths.

“He’s got a lot of talent,” winning trainer Ralph Nicks said. “He’s shown it since the day he got here from the farm. He came in the second group and immediately he was breezing as good as the first group, doing it on talent.”

Emisael Jaramillo has ridden the undefeated Breeze On By, who for his win earned $60,000, in both of his starts. The horse is a son of the Congrats stallion Cajun Breeze.

In the Desert Vixen, Go Jo Jo Go closed down the center of the track to overtake favorite Princess Secret and win by 1 1/4 lengths. It was another nose back Freak in third.

Go Jo Jo Go ($45.40) was bumped at the start and trailed early as Princess Secret set fractions of 22.59 seconds for the opening quarter and 46.34 for the half-mile. Go Jo Jo Go advanced on the turn and rolled through the lane, going on to cover the distance on a sloppy, sealed track in 1:11.47.

Leonel Reyes was aboard the winner for trainer Michael Yates.

Go Jo Jo Go came into the race off a fifth-place finish in a maiden special weight July 11 at Gulfstream. She is a daughter of the Distorted Humor stallion Khozan. She earned $60,000 with the win.
