Breen scouting stakes for As Seen On Tv

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – While adhering to a steady work schedule at Palm Meadows, the 3-year-old colt As Seen On Tv still has no definite next start in his immediate future, trainer Kelly Breen said early Monday.
“We still don’t know where or when yet,” Breen said.
As Seen On Tv was narrowly defeated at Gulfstream Park by Chance It, one of the circuit’s most accomplished 3-year-olds, in the one-mile Mucho Macho Man on Jan. 4. The son of Lookin At Lucky has two wins and two seconds from four career starts.
Breen said As Seen On Tv is nominated to the Feb. 15 Risen Star at Fair Grounds “and we’ve called there to ask who’s running,” but otherwise a decision hasn’t been reached. Breen took a long look at the Holy Bull last Saturday at Gulfstream before taking a pass.
Trainer Duco blows up the tote
No telling if or when he might send out his next longshot winner, but no trainer has done it better than Luis Duco through the opening two-plus months of the championship meet.
From his first 15 starters, Duco has four winners – and his last three have rocked the toteboard, giving Duco a gaudy $10.04 return on investment for every $2 win bet so far, highest of any trainer with at least 10 starts. Those pricey winners were My Sebasitiana ($58.80) on Jan. 10, Varsovia ($45.60) on Jan. 30, and Forever Marta ($37.20) on Sunday.
◗ The Gulfstream stakes schedule will be relatively light for the next few weeks until a cluster of major stakes, led by the Fountain of Youth, is held here Feb. 29.
The only stakes this coming weekend is the Grade 3, $150,000 Suwannee River on Saturday. Top candidates for the 1 1/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares include Magical Star and Munchkin Money, the one-two finishers in the Jan. 11 Marshua’s River.
