A day after Keeneland posted its seventh consecutive day of increases, prices were lower Thursday as Keeneland’s September yearling sale neared its end.
A half-dozen six-figure yearlings led selling Wednesday at the Keeneland September auction, where the sale continued strong momentum heading for its Sept. 24 ending. The session-topper was an Adena Springs purchase, a $140,000 Big Brown colt who is a half-brother to Grade 2 winner Recapturetheglory.

The Keeneland September yearling sale remained strong on Wednesday, its ninth session, posting solid gains when compared to a similar session last year and pushing the gross receipts well beyond last year’s gross for the entire sale.
With day eight of the 13-day Keeneland September yearling sale in the books as of Monday night, gross proceeds from the startlingly strong sale had already surpassed the gross from last year’s 14-day yearling auction.
Fasig-Tipton Sales Co. has moved the date of its annual 2-year-old in-training sale so that it will be the third major juvenile auction of the year rather than the first, according to an announcement by the company. The sale in 2012 will be held March 26, a Monday, at Palm Meadows Training Center near Boynton Beach, Fla.
A filly by Sky Mesa out of the Forest Wildcat mare Floral Park brought a price of $230,000 to top the Monday session of the Keeneland September yearling sale.
Two colts had sold for $220,000 each to share the lead for the highest-priced horses to sell halfway through the Monday session of the marathon Keeneland September yearling sale.
Keeneland’s September yearling auction kept the financial gains rolling Sunday as the seventh of 13 sessions rang up more across-the-board increases. The session-topping Quiet American colt sold late in the session and brought a $430,000 final bid from trainer D. Wayne Lukas, representing Bluegrass Hall owner Brad Kelley.
