The Jockey Club has elected six new Members, including Drew Fleming, the chief executive officer of the Breeders’ Cup. Fleming was elevated to the chief executive position at Breeders’ Cup after the organization’s 2019 event, following several years as its chief operating officer. Prior to joining Breeders’ Cup, he practiced corporate law. The others elected as Members, which choose the organization’s board members, were Gayle Benson, Dr. Jeffrey Berk, Kevin Lavin, Anthony Manganaro, and Adam Wachtel. Benson, who established GMB Racing Stables in 2014 with her husband, owns Benson Farm in Paris, Ky. She is the only sole female owner of both an NFL and NBA franchise, the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. Berk is a past president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and is the current chair of the AAEP’s Racing Committee. He is a former racetrack practitioner who now works for Equine Medical Associates in Lexington, Ky. Lavin is a partner and the director of equine insurance at Sterling Thompson Company. He is also the vice chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. Manganaro is the co-founder of Siena Farm in Paris, Ky., and the founder of Siena Corporation, a real-estate development company, and Boston Medical, which produces medical supplies. Wachtel owns and breeds horses under the name Wachtel Stable.
