Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint winner Caravel got back on the work tab on Saturday at Turfway Park, breezing three furlongs in 37.20 seconds on the Tapeta for trainer Brad Cox’s Kentucky barn. Millionaire Caravel won five stakes last year, taking the Queen Stakes at Turfway, the Grade 3 Intercontinental at Belmont, the Smart N Fancy at Saratoga, the Grade 3 Franklin at Keeneland, and finally, the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, also at Keeneland. Owned by Qatar Racing, Marc Detampel, and Madaket Stables, she was cataloged to sell at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale two days later. However, following the Breeders’ Cup victory, the partnership elected to withdraw the mare from sale and to race her in 2023. Caravel enjoyed a winter vacation at Hunter Valley Farm in Kentucky before returning to the racetrack. A major early season objective for the mare is a trip to Royal Ascot in June. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
