Millions of dollars will be awarded to winning breeders, owners, trainers, jockeys, and bettors throughout Breeders’ Cup weekend. We want some of that cash! Let’s take on Breeders’ Cup Saturday and see if we can make some money using a $100 budget. I’ll spend most of the budget on win wagers, only needing to hit one or two of the suggested wagers at most to turn a profit. Here’s how I'm playing my hundred on Saturday at Del Mar. We’ll kick things off with the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (Race 4), where I’m interested in No. 9 RICHI. I feel like she’s a bit underrated, having faced some other very talented runners, and many times she had the less ideal trip. The cutback in distance will give her some late punch. If she's about 5-1, our win wager could return a profit right away on the $100 budget. Race 4: Filly & Mare Sprint $20 to win on No. 9 RICHI Wager total $20 Next, I’ll look at the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (Race 6), with an eye on No. 2 BANISHING. This guy has had a very impressive year, but when you just isolate his sprint races, it looks even better. If he’s close to double-digit odds, he should represent value and another chance to instantly turn a profit on our $100 budget. Race 6: Sprint $20 to win on No. 2 BANISHING Wager total $20 :: Breeders' Cup data is FREE on DRF Newbie - the new mobile tool built to help you pick winners - quick and easy! I’ll try and mix in one price on top No. 3 AMILOC to pair with likely favorite No. 8 MINNIE HAUK in the first spot of a trifecta wager. If one of those two win, I’ll have the logical contenders in the second and third spots with 1, 2, 3, 8, and 9. The big price No. 9 GOLD PHOENIX loves Del Mar and has run fourth twice in the BC Turf, proving he can compete at the highest levels. Race 8: Turf $1 Trifecta 3, 8 with 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 with 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 Wager total $24 In a very competitive Breeders’ Cup Classic (Race 9), No. 5 FOREVER YOUNG has shown he fits with the best horses in the world. He’ll make his second start back after his layoff, and he is one of the more versatile horses in the field. He’s drawn well and could work out a very nice trip. Race 9: Classic $20 to win on No. 5 FOREVER YOUNG Wager Total $20 I’ll use the last of our $100 budget in the Breeders’ Cup Mile (Race 10), bet to win on a horse that should likely settle in the 8-1 range, No. 5 PROGRAM TRADING. He makes his third start back after a long layoff and should continue to step forward. Race 10: Mile $16 to win on No. 5 PROGRAM TRADING Wager Total $16 :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
