Breeders' Cup reelects three board members
Three members have been elected to new four-year terms on the Breeders’ Cup Board of Directors, while a fourth director was elected to serve out the term of a seat vacated by the recent resignation of a member, the Breeders’ Cup said on Tuesday.
The three directors re-elected to board seats were Antony Beck, a principal with Gainesway Farm in Central Kentucky; Bobby Flay, the celebrity chef and owner/breeder; and Bret Jones, a principal at Airdrie Stud in Central Kentucky. The fourth director, Fred Hertich, an owner/breeder, will serve the one year remaining on the term of Barry Weisbord, the director who resigned from the board several weeks ago, citing family and business demands.
Voting was conducted by the 45 Members of Breeders’ Cup. Under the voting procedures, the three directors with the highest vote totals received the seats with four-year terms, while the fourth was assigned the seat vacated by the resignation, according to Breeders’ Cup spokesman Jim Gluckson.
Other members of the board are Barbara Banke of Stonestreet Stables; William S. Farish of Lane’s End Farm; Craig Fravel, the president and chief executive of Breeders’ Cup; Roy Jackson of Lael Stables; Tom Ludt, an owner/breeder who is a previous Breeders’ Cup chairman; Clem Murphy of Coolmore Stud; Bill Oppenheim, a journalist and breeding consultant; Dan Pride of Darley; J. David Richardson, the chief of surgery at the University of Louisville; and Elliott Walden of WinStar Farm.
