Breeders' Cup Mile: Casa Creed, Lope Y Fernandez expect to draw in from also-eligible list

Beau Recall wasn’t expected to be entered in the Breeders’ Cup Mile on Monday as her connections have opted to point toward a less challenging race.
Trainer Brad Cox said Sunday that Beau Recall would be redirected toward the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes on Nov. 29 at Del Mar. Beau Recall also is entered in Keeneland’s November sale as hip No. 194 scheduled to go to auction on Nov. 9. Her racing future hinges on the results of that sale, Cox said.
Beau Recall, a 6-year-old mare, had been pre-entered in the Mile last week and made it into the main body of an oversubscribed race on the strength of her recent form, a victory over Newspaperofrecord in the Distaff Turf Mile in September at Churchill and a fine runner-up finish behind Uni in the First Lady Stakes last month at Keeneland.
Beau Recall’s defection was expected to allow Casa Creed into the Mile. Casa Creed, trained by Bill Mott, finished a pacesetting fourth in the Shadwell Turf Mile last month at Keeneland and will be a longshot Saturday.
Starship Jubilee, another horse in the main body of the field, was expected to be entered Monday in the Filly and Mare Turf, and the first alternate horse who could into the Mile, Sharp Samurai, was expected to be entered in the Dirt Mile. That gets Ireland-based Lope Y Fernandez into the field.
