Breeders' Cup in licensing deal with Instant Racing manufacturer
The Breeders’ Cup has reached a licensing deal with the manufacturer of the Instant Racing gambling devices that will allow the manufacturer to use the Breeders’ Cup’s likenesses and brands, according to the companies.
The deal will result in an Instant Racing machine that will feature the Breeders’ Cup logo on its interface, according to Steve Marcinak, an official with RaceTech, the manufacturer. The machine likely will debut at The Red Mile in downtown Lexington, Ky., when a gambling facility at the track with approximately 900 of the machines opens in the fall. The parlor is a partnership between The Red Mile and Keeneland, which will host the Breeders’ Cup event Oct. 30-31.
Instant Racing machines are slot-machine-like devices that use the results of previously run horse races to generate random numbers determining payouts to players. The legality of the machines is being challenged by a conservative anti-gambling group in Kentucky, and the suit has not been resolved.
