Breeders' Cup Juvenile runner-up Mr. A. P. ready for return
Mr. A. P., unraced since finishing second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last fall at Del Mar, did not work last weekend as usual, but no worries. Trainer Vladimir Cerin said Mr. A. P. was coming around too quickly, and Cerin did not want the colt ready too soon, hence the skipped work.
Mr. A. P. will be nominated to the $150,000 Oceanside Handicap on July 17, opening day at Del Mar. Grass will be a new surface for Mr. A. P., and Joel Rosario will be the colt’s new rider. He will replace Antonio Fresu. Mr. A. P. is owned by David and Holly Wilson.
The promising 2-year-old colt Kennyten also is trained by Cerin and owned by the Wilsons. In his runaway debut win June 12 at Santa Anita, Kennyten earned a 92 Beyer Speed Figure, winning by more than seven lengths. Through last weekend, the figure is highest of the year by a 2-year-old. Kennyten, by Drain the Clock, is aiming to the Grade 3 Best Pal Stakes on Aug. 8 at Del Mar.
