Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf: Catch a Glimpse, Harmonize seemingly well-positioned
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Led by Breeders’ Cup Challenge Win and You’re In race winners Catch a Glimpse and Harmonize, a field of 14, plus an also-eligible, were drawn Monday afternoon for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Keeneland on Friday.
The speedy Catch a Glimpse, a five-length winner of the Grade 2 Natalma at Woodbine on Sept. 12, drew well in post 4, with just a furlong run to the first of two turns in the one-mile turf race for 2-year-old fillies.
Harmonize, who took the Grade 3 Jessamine Stakes at Keeneland earlier this month after winning the P.G. Johnson at Saratoga over this summer, also landed in seemingly a good spot in post 8. From there she could carve out a favorable stalking trip behind Catch a Glimpse and Ruby Notion, another front-runner who breaks alongside Catch a Glimpse in post 5.
Inevitably in a field this large, others weren’t as fortunate. Mirage and Last Waltz appear to be the ones most at risk for losing ground, landing in posts 13 and 14, respectively.
Another is on the outside looking in – that being also-eligible Time and Motion, who can only gain a start if there is a scratch by Friday morning, and even under that scenario, her starting post would land her on the far outside.
As is customary for this race, it drew a number of raiders from Europe, topped by Alice Springs and Illuminate, stakes winners overseas who are also Group 1-placed. The former drew post 3, the latter post 10.
Tin Type Gal and Thrilled, separated a nose in the Miss Grillo Stakes at Belmont on Sept. 27, will pick up where they left off in the latter race, starting side by side in posts 1 and 2, respectively.
Only one alternate among the pre-entries made the body of the field, that being Gliding By, who gained a spot when Land Over Sea, entered the Juvenile Fillies rather than the Juvenile Fillies Turf, a move that was widely anticipated.
The Juvenile Fillies Turf will be the eighth race at Keeneland Friday, with post time at 4:50 Eastern.
