Just F Y I is set to make her two-turn debut in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Nov. 3 at Santa Anita – just like nearly half of the 15 horses pre-entered in the race Monday. The Juvenile Fillies, at 1 1/16 miles, also would be the first two-turn start for five others if they enter back Monday: Accommodate Eva, Esprit Enchante, Jody’s Pride, Omaha Girl, and Tamara. Just F Y I won over a one-turn mile last out in the Grade 1 Frizette on Oct. 7 at the Belmont at Aqueduct meet. She settled off the pace and went on to a 3 3/4-length victory in the slop in a performance that left trainer Bill Mott encouraged about the added ground in the Breeders’ Cup. :: Get Breeders' Cup Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the DRF Clocker Team when you purchase a BC VIP Package! “It seems to me like she was still strong passing the wire,” he said. “She came to the finish line and she was still going. She wasn’t backing up. She seemed like she was getting stronger.” Just F Y I has pedigree in her favor, too, as a daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify. “I think she’ll be okay,” Mott said of the two-turn configuration. “She’s not experienced at this – I think she’s capable of it. “She’s a lot of horse. She’s a big, strong filly, good mover, and there’s a lot to like about her.” Mott said Just F Y I was to have traveled to Santa Anita on Wednesday and will be ridden by Junior Alvarado. Just F Y I is one of four Grade 1 winners pre-entered. She’s the early 8-1 third choice on David Aragona’s line for Daily Racing Form behind Tamara, the 4-5 favorite off her win in the Del Mar Debutante, and Candied, the 9-2 second choice following her win in the Alcibiades at Keeneland. The Grade 1 club also includes Spinaway heroine Brightwork, a 4-for-5 runner who has a second, non-binding preference of the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Brightwork was prominent in the Alcibiades before finishing fifth in what was her two-turn debut Oct. 6. “We’re planning on the Juvenile Fillies,” trainer John Ortiz said. “We’ve been working on getting her to understand, going two turns now, to take a breath early on and hopefully finish down the stretch. She still acts like she’ll go two turns. It’s a learning curve first time going two turns. We’ve been working on getting her to understand it’s okay to settle.” Ortiz said Brightwork is scheduled to work Saturday at Keeneland and ship Monday. She will be ridden by Ricardo Santana Jr. Plans for Grade 3 winner V V’s Dream, who is pre-entered in the Juvenile Fillies and entered in the Rags to Riches at her Churchill base Sunday, are to be determined, said trainer Kenny McPeek. “We’re going to decide in the next couple of days,” he said Wednesday. Others pre-entered include Alys Beach, Chatalas, Life Talk, and Scalable. Go With Gusto and Where’s My Ring, who has not been selected into the field, both have made the Juvenile Fillies their second preference behind the Juvenile Fillies Turf, just like Jody’s Pride. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
