ARCADIA, Calif. - Fueled by a carryover of $891,813 from Friday’s program, the 50-cent pick five on Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup program paid $23,665.90 on a day when the pool reached a California record $6,438,509.

The record pick-five pool was achieved on the first five races of the 12-race card.

The Breeders’ Cup had guaranteed pools on four multi-race wagers on Saturday, and all surpassed the advertised minimums. Friday, the pick six had a guaranteed pool of $1 million, but attracted only $891,102 in bets.

The winners of Saturday’s pick five races were Richies Party Girl ($15.60) in the Juvenile Turf Sprint, Zeewat ($12) in the Damascus Stakes, Pontchatrain ($6.60) in the Sen. Ken Maddy Stakes, Ria Antonia ($66.60) in the BC Juvenile Fillies, and Dank ($5) in the BC Filly and Mare Turf.

Pontchatrain and Dank were favored.

Saturday, a 50-cent pick four on the fourth through seventh races paid $2,094.10 from a pool of $2,119,973. The bet was guaranteed to reach $1 million.

The winners of the early pick four races were Ria Antonia, Dank, Groupie Doll ($8) in the BC Filly and Mare Sprint, and Mizdirection ($7.40) in the BC Turf Sprint. The last three winners were favored.

The $2 pick six on the seventh through 12th races drew a pool of $3,277,813, well over the guaranteed amount of $2.5 million.

The pick six, which paid $47,516.20, began with the seventh race, won by Mizdirection.

The remaining winners were New Year’s Day ($23) in the BC Juvenile, Magician ($27) in the BC Turf, Secret Circle ($7) in the BC Sprint, Wise Dan ($3.60) in the BC Mile and Mucho Macho Man ($10) in the BC Classic.

The 50-cent late pick four, covering the ninth through 12th races, began with Magician’s win in the BC Turf and paid $381.45. The pool was guaranteed at $3 million, and reached $3,730,236.
