Breeders' Cup: G Laurie scratches from Juvenile Fillies Turf; Bling draws in
LEXINGTON, Ky. – G Laurie, 12-1 on the morning line of the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday, was withdrawn from the race on Thursday afternoon after she “spiked a temperature,” according to her trainer, Graham Motion.
“Terrible timing,” Motion said, in confirming the withdrawal.
G Laurie was one of three horses in the Juvenile Fillies Turf who were coming into the race out of the Group 1 Natalma Stakes on Sept. 17 at Woodbine Racecourse near Toronto, Ontario. She finished third in that race, in which Last Call surged to the lead on the outside at the top of the stretch and G Laurie advanced on the rail, beaten 1 3/4 lengths.
The Juvenile Fillies Turf has one of the most competitive fields in the 14-race Breeders’ Cup lineup. With the defection of G Laurie, Bling, who was third in the Grade 2 Jessamine Stakes on the turf at Keeneland in her last start on Oct. 7, will draw into the field. The winner of the Jessamine, Delight, is the 6-1 co-second choice on the morning line.
