Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf likely final start for Stormy Lucy

ARCADIA, Calif. – Stormy Lucy, third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 26, is a candidate for the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland on Oct. 31.
Ron Glatt, who assists trainer Ed Moger Jr., said on Thursday that the BC Filly and Mare Turf might be Stormy Lucy’s final start. She is scheduled to be sold at auction in Kentucky in the days after the Breeders’ Cup.
“If everything goes well, that will be the plan,” Glatt said.
Stormy Lucy, 6, has won 7 of 27 starts and earned $587,700. Owned by Steve Moger, the trainer’s brother, Stormy Lucy has won four stakes, including the Grade 2 Santa Barbara and Grade 2 Santa Ana Stakes at Santa Anita in 2014.
Stormy Lucy was 11th in the 2012 BC Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita.
Om to Twilight Derby
Om, the winner of the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby on Sept. 6, worked five furlongs in 1:02.60 on Friday while preparing for the $200,000 Twilight Derby on turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 24.
Trained by Dan Hendricks, Om has had three workouts since the Del Mar Derby, his first stakes win. Hendricks said on Friday that Om has the Grade 2 Twilight Derby and the $300,000 Hollywood Derby on turf at Del Mar on Nov. 28 as goals. Both races are run at 1 1/8 miles.
Owned by K.B. Sareen, Om has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $274,500. In August 2014, Om won a maiden race for 2-year-olds at Del Mar, beating American Pharoah, who finished fifth in his debut.
