Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf: Elektrum staying in California

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Trainer John Sadler said via text message Tuesday that Elektrum will stay home in California rather than travel to Kentucky with the hope of drawing into Saturday’s Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf from the also-eligible list.
Elektrum was placed first on the also-eligible list. Now, E.P. Taylor runner-up Talmada is in line to draw into the race. She needs a defection to make the field by the early scratch deadline on Friday morning.
Sadler texted that Elektrum will run in the Grade 2 Goldikova at Del Mar on Sunday.
Elektrum had an unlucky trip in the Rodeo Drive, running into traffic problems, and she may have been just as unlucky not to be selected into the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf field. In her last two starts, both against fillies and mares, Elektrum won the Grade 2 John C. Mabee and finished second in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive. Sharla Rae was selected into the field on the strength of a win against 3-year-old fillies in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks and a fifth - behind Elektrum - in the Rodeo Drive, her lone start against fillies and mares.
