Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf: Classic Q will try to get added ground

LEXINGTON, K.Y. – Classic Q will attempt to stretch out to 1 3/16 miles in the $2 million Filly and Mare Turf and not face the boys in the $2 million Mile, trainer Mark Casse said Friday.
“I just think we want to run against the girls and we feel she can get a mile and three-sixteenths,” Casse said Friday.
Classic Q has never won past one mile the four times she has raced beyond that distance. She is a two-time Grade 1 winner at a mile this year, having won the Just a Game in June and the First Lady at Keeneland earlier this month.
Classic Q is the second filly in two days who was pre-entered in both the Mile and Filly and Mare Turf to commit to the latter race. On Thursday, Blue Bolt, 6 for 6 this year racing in Europe for trainer Andrew Balding, committed to the Filly and Mare Turf.
The Mile has undergone some significant changes since pre-entries were announced on Wednesday. In addition to Blue Bolt and Classic Q, other defections from that race include Constitution River, Gstaad, and Ten Bob Tony.
Those defections allow Ask Ikigomi, Puerto Rico, Qirat, Lugal, and Brilliant Berti into the field.
Lush Lips, next on the preference list, is going to run in the Filly and Mare Turf, trainer Brendan Walsh said. That leaves Facteur Cheval, trained by Casse, as the next on the preference list, who could draw into the Mile.
