Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint: Reneesgotzip to face the boys

Marty McGee|Sep 30, 2013
Reneesgotzip, Rancho Bernardo Handicap
Benoit & Associates Reneesgotzip, setting a Del Mar record for 6 1/2 furlongs in the Rancho Bernardo, could go in the BC Turf Sprint, Filly and Mare Sprint, or Sprint.

Trainer Peter Miller said Monday that Reneesgotzip, arguably the top female sprinter on the West Coast, will not be pre-entered in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and will go against male rivals in the Sprint or Turf Sprint.

Also from California, trainer Bob Baffert said he likely will run both Book Review and Executiveprivilege on Saturday in the ungraded L.A. Woman Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong race that also is expected to get another Filly-Mare Sprint hopeful, Teddy’s Promise.

Baffert said Fiftyshadesofhay is not being considered for the F-M Sprint and is set to run Saturday in the Indiana Oaks.

In Kentucky, the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes will be run Saturday at Keeneland as a Win and You’re In race, with Groupie Doll a heavy favorite. Groupie Doll, winner of the TCA and the BC Filly-Mare Sprint last year, had her second and last workout for the TCA when breezing a half-mile last weekend at her Churchill Downs home base.

Among the other expected starters for the six-furlong TCA are Judy the Beauty, Gypsy Robin, and Purely Hot.

From Florida, trainer Marty Wolfson said Monday he intends to run Starship Truffles in the F-M Sprint and that he also is hoping My Pal Chrisy, winner of the Sept. 21 Musical Romance at Calder, will be supplemented for $90,000 by her owners, Miller Racing LLC.

From New York, trainer Chad Brown said he has declared 3-year-old My Happy Face from consideration for the F-M Sprint.
