Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint next for Paulassilverlining

ELMONT, N.Y. – Paulassilverlining, the Grade 2 Gallant Bloom winner, will make her next start in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita, owner Vincent Scuderi said Friday.
“I want to take a shot,” Scuderi said “She earned it winning that last stake. If she didn’t win that last stake, I probably wouldn’t have gone. But she showed me something there – she’s rateable.”

In the Gallant Bloom, Paulassilverlining came from a bit off the pace and defeated, among others, Wavell Avenue, last year’s BC Filly and Mare Sprint winner.
Prior to that, she pressed the pace in the Grade 1 Ballerina and finished fifth. Scuderi said that for the Ballerina, he told Jose Ortiz “to go to the lead and keep on going.”
“I might have screwed up a little bit there,” he said.
Scuderi said if Curalina goes in the Filly and Mare Sprint, she probably is the one to beat. If not, Scuderi believes the race is wide open.
“There’s four or five that can win,” he said. “I might be fifth, but I think I got a shot. She’s handled every New York track, so hopefully she can handle that surface. And if she gets second or third, I’ll be very proud of her.”
Paulassilverlining will give trainer Michelle Nevin two starters in the race. She also will run By the Moon.
On Friday, Paulassilverlining worked five furlongs in 1:01.36 over the Belmont main track, with a final quarter of 24.30 seconds. It was a solid work for a filly who isn’t typically a good work horse by herself.
