Breeders' Cup Classic: Tiz the Law works solid six furlongs before departing for Keeneland

Tiz the Law will depart New York for Keeneland on Sunday, but not before turning in one last, impressive work over the Belmont Park main track early Friday morning, going six furlongs in 1:12.26 under regular exercise rider Heather Smullen as he continues preparations for the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 7.
Working in company with Niko’s Dream, Tiz the Law posted splits of 24.00, 36.40, and 47.80, readily drawing away from his workmate at the end. He then galloped out full of energy, going seven furlongs in 1:25.46 before pulling up a full mile in 1:40.05 according to track clockers.
“He went really well,” trainer Barclay Tagg said. “This was probably his most important work leading up to the Breeders’ Cup. I want to get a couple of breezes into him at Keeneland. How fast those will be I’ll determine as I see how he’s feeling and how he’s doing as he goes along. The main thing is for him to get used to that track and the surroundings. We’re just trying to take every precaution we can before the big race.”
Tagg said he loves the way Tiz the Law has progressed over the last several weeks.
“I wanted to just take it easy with him for the first 30 days after the Kentucky Derby, and fortunately we had enough time to be able to do that,” said Tagg. “Now he’s coming around really, really well and I feel like we did the right thing by him.”
