ARCADIA, Calif. – A massive carryover of $891,813 in the 50-cent pick five gives bettors an early jackpot wager to conquer on Saturday’s star-studded Breeders’ Cup program at Santa Anita.

Other major bets were hit on Friday’s Breeders’ Cup program, with lucrative payoffs. The $2 pick six paid $106,839 on a day when the pool failed to reach the guaranteed $1 million, drawing $891,012 in wagers.

The winners of the pick six races were Rookie Sensation ($18.20), London Bridge ($20), Outstrip ($14), Goldencents, ($9.60), Chriselliam ($15.80), and Beholder ($7.60).

The 50-cent late pick 4, beginning with Outstrip’s win in the BC Juvenile Turf, paid $403.90.

A string of longshots clinched Friday’s pick five carryover. The winners of Friday’s pick five races were Pure Loyalty ($10.80), Heir of Storm ($77.60), Better Bet ($96), Swiss Lake Yodeler ($18), and Rookie Sensation.

It is hard to gauge what the pool of new money will be on Saturday’s high-profile program, but it is likely to exceed $3 million. The bet has proven extremely popular in Southern California in recent years, with its low minimum and 14 percent takeout.

Saturday’s pick five covers the first five races on a 12-race program.

The races are the Juvenile Turf Sprint on the hillside turf course, the Damascus Stakes for 3-year-olds over seven furlongs, the Sen. Ken Maddy Stakes for fillies and mares on the hillside turf course, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies over 1 1/16 miles, and the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf over 1 1/4 miles.

Friday’s pick five had a guaranteed pool of $500,000 and was easily met. The 50-cent late pick four had a guaranteed pool of $1.5 million and reached a pool of $2,693,116.

Beholder won the first leg of a $2 double linking the BC Distaff and the BC Classic. Here are the probable payoffs to the runners in the BC Classic:
1. Last Gunfighter, $175
2. Paynter, $75
3. Planteur, $154
4. Moreno, $86
5. Declaration of War, $34
6. Mucho Macho Man, $18
7. Fort Larned, $48
