Breeders' Cup: Caracortado now pointing to Hollywood Turf Express

Mike Machowsky said the hoof abscess bothering Caracortado is so minor that he hopes his homebred gelding will be ready for the $100,000 Hollywood Turf Express on Dec. 8.
“It wasn’t that big a deal except for the timing,” said Machowsky. “We should have it healed up and get him back in training so that we’re ready for the next one.”
While Machowsky took the scratch of Caracortado from the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in stride, the same could not be said for Tim Glyshaw, whose would-be first BC starter, Taptowne, was ordered scratched Friday morning from the Dirt Mile by the state veterinarian’s office because of a foot bruise. Glyshaw said he strongly believed the focus spot on Taptowne’s foot was inconsequential and that he was not treated as fairly as “name” trainers.
“I feel like I’ll probably never come here again,” he said.
Glyshaw, based primarily in Kentucky, did receive some consolation over the weekend, however, when he won the $130,000 Mountaineer Mile on Saturday night with Voodoo Storm.
Gentlemen's Bet likely to try a mile
Ron Moquett said he probably will stretch out the third-place finisher in the BC Sprint, Gentlemen’s Bet, “maybe to a mile” when the colt makes his next start. Gentlemen’s Bet led past the eighth pole in the Sprint before yielding late.
“He’s got a high cruising speed,” said Moquett. “He’s got stamina on his dam’s side,” alluding to the damsire being Gentlemen. “The pace isn’t as demanding going a little longer. We want to see if he’s the miler type.”
