Breeders' Cup: Awesome Result a vet scratch from Distaff

Barbara D. Livingston Awesome Result was the expected second choice in the Breeders' Cup Distaff behind Thorpedo Anna.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Awesome Result, the undefeated filly from Japan scheduled to run in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, was scratched Saturday morning following a veterinary exam.

Awesome Result won seven starts in Japan and was the likely second betting choice behind Thorpedo Anna in the Distaff. The race has fallen apart. Recent defections due to retirement, injury or vet scratch include 2023 Distaff winner Idiomatic, Adare Manor, and Awesome Result.

Yasutosi Ikee trains Awesome Result, a Kentucky-bred 4-year-old by Justify whose five-length runaway last out was her most decisive victory. She was scheduled to be ridden Saturday by her regular rider Yutaka Take.

Ikee was not immediately available for comment. Breeders’ Cup media liaison Mariko Seki said “There was a vet check this morning, they said [Awesome Result] cannot run.”

Seki said, according to the vet, Awesome Result “has some issue with her left front fetlock from the vet's check this morning.”

Based on daily double will-pays from the Juvenile Fillies on Friday, Awesome Result would have started as the second betting choice in the Distaff.

The scratch of Awesome Result follows scratches from Breeders’ Cup Saturday races including Diego Velazquez and Ramatuelle (Mile), and Ylang Ylang (Filly and Mare Turf). Early this week, Batucada and Miss New York were scratched from the Distaff.

As of 9:30 a.m. Saturday, the Distaff had a field of seven led by Thorpedo Anna. Raging Sea is the likely second choice, followed by Candied, Alice Verite, Sugar Fish, Honor D Lady, and Che Evasora.
