Breeders' Cup: Asmussen staying at Santa Anita
Trainer Steve Asmussen said Thursday that he plans to have a stable at Santa Anita this winter for the fourth consecutive season.
Asmussen said the number of runners and which horses will be sent will be determined in the coming weeks. He said he would send horses to California “if I think it’s the best thing for them.”
Last winter, Asmussen’s stable was led by Unbridled’s Note, who won the Joe Hernandez Stakes on the hillside turf course and was third in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes. Unbridled’s Note starts for Asmussen in Saturday’s BC Turf Sprint. Asmussen also starts Untapable in the BC Juvenile Fillies and Justin Phillip in the BC Sprint.
“I’ve got legitimate chances,” he said. “You’ve got to get lucky.”
