Breeders' Cup announces slate of 84 Win and You're In races

One year after having to stagger its announcements about which races would be included in its “Win and You’re In” series due to the coronavirus pandemic, Breeders’ Cup announced on Tuesday the full slate of 84 races that will make up the series this year, with a total of nine races providing guaranteed spots in the $6 million Classic.
The 84 races will take place in 10 different countries, including Argentina, Canada, Chile, England, France, Ireland, Japan, Peru, South Africa, and the United States. Four of the races have already been held, all of them outside of the U.S., with Cafe Pharoah snagging the first guaranteed berth on offer for the Classic by winning the February Stakes at Tokyo Race Course earlier this year.
The races in the series guarantee the winner all entry fees in their designated Breeders’ Cup races. Breeders’ Cup also provides a $10,000 travel stipend for all North American runners that enter the event’s 14 races and $40,000 to runners based outside North America.
This year’s Breeders’ Cup two-day event is scheduled for Nov. 5-6 at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club north of San Diego, Calif. Del Mar last hosted the event in 2017.
Last year, five horses with guaranteed berths won their designated Breeders’ Cup races, including Authentic in the Classic and Tarnawa in the $4 million Turf.
This year, all Breeders’ Cup races will include a condition prohibiting the administration of the anti-bleeding medication furosemide within 24 hours of a race. The condition, which is supported by a coalition of racing organizations including Breeders’ Cup, is also a state regulation for all graded stakes races run in California this year.
