Breeders Crown: Broadway Donna takes 3-Year-Old Filly Trot

Broadway Donna surpassed the $1 million mark in career earnings after winning the $500,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Filly Trot in 1:53 1/5 following a first-over trip.

Driven by David Miller, Broadway Donna got away in fifth while Emoticon Hanover (Sylvain Filion) went to the lead and hit the front quarter in 28 seconds. Elimination winner All The Time (Yannick Gingras) then went first-over out of fourth in search of the lead, and she would get it before the 56 3/5 half went on the board.

Broadway Donna was guided first-over at the half, and she would gain ground around the final bend, getting side-by-side with All The Time at the 1:25 3/5 three-quarters. Broadway Donna would then take the advantage near the eighth pole and pull away to win by about 2 1/2 lengths over Emoticon Hanover. All The Time was third, and she was followed by Earn Your Wings (Brett Miller) and Caprice Hill (Tim Tetrick)

"I was hoping to get away somewhere in the middle and come with cover, but right off the gate nobody from the inside was even pushing off, so I had to do something," said David Miller. "I got around and when Yannick was moving back I said it's going to be first-over, but she's been sharp, she's strong, and she got the job done.

"She's way sharper now than she was half-way through the summer, and that's always a good thing, I think."

Jim Campbell trains Broadway Donna, a Donato Hanover filly, for owner/breeder Fashion Farms LLC. Broadway Donna now has a record of 16-2-1 from 22 tries, and she has put away $1,195,994. She returned $3.60 to win as the 4-5 favorite.

"She's just a super filly, and when I saw David coming first-over with her I just thought if she's got her game on tonight the first-over didn't bother me. She just proved tonight that she's a top-notch filly," Campbell said. "She's a true champion. She wants to do it, and she's just a sweetheart to be around. I can't say enough good things about her."
