Break Even, Warrior's Charge rolling for Cox

The 3-year-olds Break Even and Warrior’s Charge have turned in some outstanding recent races at Oaklawn for trainer Brad Cox.
Break Even ran her record to 3 for 3 in the $150,000 Purple Martin, a six-furlong stakes for 3-year-old fillies on March 30. She earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 94. Break Even has won her three races by a combined 13 3/4 lengths.
“She’s very talented,” Cox said. “She does everything the right way. She’s a very mild-mannered, intelligent filly, does everything you ask of her. She’s nice.”
Break Even is now based at Churchill Downs and is being pointed for that track’s Grade 2, $250,000 Eight Belles on May 3, said Cox. She is a homebred daughter of Country Day for Klein Racing.
Warrior’s Charge has won both of his starts this meet at Oaklawn, beginning with a six-length win in a maiden special weight over 1 1/16 miles on March 16 for which he earned a Beyer of 89. He romped by 6 1/2 lengths in an allowance at the same distance April 12, earning a Beyer of 97.
“Very impressive,” Cox said of the allowance. “It was every bit as impressive as his maiden win. Back in four weeks, it was a question whether he could put two together like that, and he did, and I think it showed he can be a good horse. He received a great figure out of the race, and hopefully it’s on to stakes competition.”
Cox said the day after the allowance win that the horse had emerged from the race in excellent condition and would now be based at Churchill. Cox said options for the horse include the Sir Barton at Pimlico and the Grade 2, $300,000 Peter Pan on May 11 at Belmont Park.
“We will give him plenty of time to recover from this,” he said. “No hurry.”
Warrior’s Charge is owned by Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stables.
