Glenye Cain Oakford|Mar 04, 2008

Brazilian Group 1-placed New Freedom sold for about $626,000 Tuesday to top the inaugural Dubai International Racing Carnival horses-in-training auction at Dubai's Nad Al Sheba racetrack.

Buyer Ali Saeed Belhab paid 2.3 million United Arab Emirates dirhams for the 7-year-old New Freedom. The session was devoted to graduates of the Dubai International Racing Carnival and sold 24 horses for about $1,239,300, yielding an average price of about $51,637. New Freedom is a Burooj gelding who was bred in Brazil.

The auction, jointly conducted by the Emirates Racing Association and Engish-based auction house Tattersalls, was to continue with a final session Wednesday.
