Brad Free's Santa Anita horses to watch from week of May 15-17, 2020
HOLLYWOOD GIRL
Trainer: John Shirreffs
Last race: May 15, 5th
Finish: 6th by 4
Beyer: 76
First in nine months, this allowance filly was only prepping in turf mile. Settled at rear of field, angled wide, finished with only minimal encouragement in a perfect tightener.
KA’NAH
Trainer: Ryan Hanson
Last race: May 15, 9th
Finish: 1st by 2 1/2
Beyer: 92
This lightly raced older maiden rallied to an impressive maiden win. He won with plenty left, ran faster than an allowance sprint earlier, and should be tough on the class hike.
SHE’S OUR CHARM
Trainer: Ron McAnally
Last race: May 16, 7th
Finish: 7th by 5
Beyer: 77
Willing to forgive promising filly for last-place debacle in second-level turf mile. She was fractious in gate, bobbled at start, zoomed to lead, faltered. Draw a line through it.
WARREN’S SHOWTIME
Trainer: Craig Lewis
Last race: May 16, 8th
Finish: 4th by 3 1/4
Beyer: 75
Circumstances were against turf-route filly in this dirt sprint. Lagged early, rallied inside, hit a roadblock, and stalled into stretch, evenly late. Follow in any two-turn turf stakes.
MO ME MO MY
Trainer: Doug O’Neill
Last race: May 17, 1st
Finish: 4th by 2
Beyer: 77
Entry-level allowance filly ran well first in eight months. Pressed/chased fast pace while wide in turf sprint, kept to task, evenly. Solid effort, gallop-out. Will be fitter next out.
OLE SILVER
Trainer: Phil D’Amato
Last race: May 17, 4th
Finish: 6th by 4 1/2
Beyer: 50
Debut California-bred maiden has more ability than it appears. Raced greenly, uncomfortable from kickback, solid move on turn and into lane, finished on her own. Better than looked.
