Brad Free's Gulfstream Park plays for Thursday, May 7, 2020
Gulfstream Park is the only game in town Thursday. Wagering recommendations on the country’s lone Thoroughbred program are limited to a pair of small pick three plays and a longshot win bet.
Gulfstream Park pick three races 1-3 (1:35 p.m. ET) – A maiden-claiming turf sprint, a 2-year-old dash with an obligatory Wesley Ward-trained favorite, and a claiming sprint kicks off the card.
Race 1 – Two class droppers at low odds figure to dominate this maiden-claiming turf sprint – program favorite No No Nina (2) and Myfirstexwife (6). Two-deep: 2, 6.
Race 2 – Sometimes one bets against favorites due to perceived vulnerability. Other times it is due to value, which is the case with Ward-trained favorite Gem Thief (4) and second favorite Tharos (2). Even though Ward’s 2-year-olds are firing as usual – four starters produced a win and three seconds – this juvenile sprint is deeper than the chalk.
Princess Secret (3) worked fast and is by a win-early sire; Lyrical (5) is trained by Juan Alvarado, who already won twice this meet with debut 2-year-olds; Briella (7) also has worked well; Awesome View (8) can improve second time out. Four-deep: 3, 5, 7, 8.
Race 3 – Not in love with favorite Take Charge Again (1), whose top speed figure was earned in a clunk-up third-place finish. She could win, but at 2-1 she is a pass.
Varsovia (2) lost her chance at the break last out; Chic and Sexy (3) will be forwardly placed; Miss Mac (6) makes her first start at the bottom level. Three-deep 2, 3, 6.
Races 1-3 pick three (50-cent minimum): 2, 6, with 3, 5, 7, 8 with 2, 3, 6 = $12

Gulfstream Park pick three races 5-7 (3:13 p.m. ET) – A claiming turf route, a maiden special weight sprint, and a claiming turf sprint make up an interesting pick-three sequence.
Race 5 – Droppers from allowance to restricted claiming offer value in this turf route. Cable Channel (3), Blameless (4), and Motataabq (6). Three-deep: 3, 4, 6.
Race 6 – Second-time starter Celtic Brotherhood (1) is a legit favorite based on his sharp runner-up debut; comebacker Chamberlain (6) has worked very well, according to the Daily Racing Form Gulfstream Clocker Report. He is listed at 12-1. Two-deep 1, 6.
Win bet: The speedy longshot Chamberlain is worth a straight bet at the price.
Race 7 – Three favorites should cover this claiming turf sprint: Royally Cool (4), Heir Ball (5) and Fiber Optic (6). Three-deep: 4, 5, 6.
Races 5-7 pick three (50-cent minimum): 3, 4, 6, with 1, 6 with 4, 5, 6 = $9.
