Midwest racing is getting a lot of attention lately, as will a stakes doubleheader Wednesday at Fonner Park in Nebraska. Over at Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma, a modest card includes a late double worth a look. Value at both tracks? It could happen.
Fonner Park, race 3 (5:54 ET) – A pair of longshots offer appeal, though the handful of Fonner races this season at this class produced winning favorites 3 of 4 (two-turn sprint, $5K claiming F&M, nonwinners two). Class-drop favorite Tell Me Im Pretty (1) is the fastest entrant based on her maiden win two back at Oaklawn Park.
But we’re also looking for prices, and Gonewiththebreeze (2) has an even-paced style that suggests she will appreciate this longer trip; she is 15-1. Goveness Sheila (3) drops to the bottom for the first time; she is 10-1. At double digits, both can be bet to win and combined with favorite Tell Me Im Pretty (1) in exactas. The numbers: 1, 2, 3.

Will Rogers Downs double, races 9-10 (6:15 ET) – The double is a $1 wager at Will Rogers, and worth a small action bet (2 x 3) Wednesday beginning with a statebred allowance route.
Race 9 – Inclusively (1) might be a closing sprinter, but the 4-1 shot ran fast last out, and his trainer does well with Will Rogers stretch-outs. Program favorite Dak Da Man (4) is possibly vulnerable for reasons outlined in the Daily Racing Form preview. Dak Da Man meets a soft field however, therefore two-deep.
Race 10 – Three-deep in the finale: dropper June Two Four (4), up-in-class Quicksilver (6), and possibly better-than-looked dropper Spirit of Caledon (8) at 8-1.
Double ($6 play): The numbers: 1,4 with 4, 6, 8. If the double is blown out in the first leg, longshot Spirit of Caledon is worth backing to win. His figs are fast enough.
Fonner Park, race 4 (6:25 ET) – Two things jump out regarding this filly-mare stakes – Eaton’s Memory (7) is the likely favorite, rather than program choice Our Musical Moment (2). Secondly, Matapan (6) is likely to run much better with a new jockey. A botched ride contributed to an off-the-board finish in her first start at Fonner.
Eaton’s Memory is legit; she dominated the Runza Stakes two weeks ago. However, fifth-place finisher Matapan is worth backing Wednesday at 6-1. She was rallying strongly on the final turn of the Runza when she steadied behind a tiring front-runner and lost all chance. Big rider switch to Jake Olesiak, past races by Matapan are fast enough.
Fonner Park, race 8 (8:20 ET) – A favorite has not won the Bosselman Stakes since 2013, but Pendleton (9) looks tough at 3-1. Pendleton is “fast,” versatile, and his trainer-jockey combo is sizzling. Justin Evans and Francisco Arrieta are 13 for 18 since January. For bettors unwilling to take the short price on Pendleton, Fight On (6) has faced tougher at his listed at 4-1. Fight On is the first Fonner Park starter for trainer Doug O’Neill.
