Brad Free's cross-country plays for Wednesday, April 22, 2020
Sandwiched between live longshots Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs and Fonner Park are three rock-solid contenders at Will Rogers Downs. Jumping in:
Tampa Bay Downs, Race 2 (1 p.m. ET) – Itsgottabemyway (5) is live at a price versus legit favorites Noble Intentions (9), Pioneerof New York (7), and My Masterpiece (4) in a claiming turf route. The third-place finish last out by Itsgottabemyway, first start off the claim, hints she has improved for trainer Nick Caruso. Itsgottabemyway was antsy in the gate, broke slowly, then uncorked an impressive 23.59-second final quarter-mile to finish third in a race dominated by speed. Itsgottabemyway is sharp and likely to outrun her 12-1 morning line.
Will Rogers Downs, Race 3 (3:15 p.m. ET) – Crazy Sexy Munny (3), 4 for 5 since stretching to two turns, makes her Midwest debut in a $7,500 claiming starter that she fits perfectly. Her recent wins at Golden Gate were for $20K and $18K; she probably is facing easier. The main uncertainty is a switch to dirt, but 4-1 program odds justifies the risk.

Will Rogers Downs, Race 4 (3:45 p.m. ET) – Fortnite Dance (3) is the “cross-country cinch” for Wednesday, based on her recent maiden-claiming romp at Turf Paradise. She cruised by more than five lengths, worked twice since, and is realistically spotted in a $7,5000 claiming nonwinners two for her initial try versus winners. If she reproduces her Arizona form in Oklahoma, Fortnite Dance would make 3-1 seem like a gift. Lower odds likely.
Will Rogers Downs, Race 8 (5:45 ET) – Aloo Ghost (5) took a liking to the track his first start at Will Rogers, a solid come-from-behind N2L claiming win. He moves to N3L for hot trainer-jockey combo of Karl Broberg and jockey David Cabrera – eight wins from their last 13 together, including two more Tuesday. Aloo Ghost is listed at 4-1. Fair enough.
Fonner Park, Race 8 (8:09 ET) – Eastside Boy (4) disappointed bettors at even-money last out, fourth in a similar allowance, but his effort was actually okay. He hopped when the gates opened and broke last by several lengths. The pacesetters dominated; he closed ground to finish fourth. Now listed at 8-1, facing favorites that might be vulnerable for a variety of reasons (footing, bounce, comeback), Eastside Boy can make amends. Listed at 8-1.
