Bp Cartel Policy leads all the way in Golden State Derby
Bp Cartel Policy won his second derby of 2024 in the $193,400 Golden State Derby at Los Alamitos on Saturday, a reversal of his dismal fifth-place finish in a time trial on Aug. 17.
Sent off a slight favorite, BP Cartel Policy ($6.40) broke sharply and led throughout the 400 yards, finishing two lengths clear of 17-1 Mask Mandate. Cowgirl Upp (6-1) finished third in a field of nine, beaten three lengths.
Think Again Kev was a late scratch after an incident at the gate.
Bp Cartel Policy was timed in 19.45 seconds and earned $81,228 for owner and breeder Bill Price and trainer Monty Arrossa.

Bp Cartel Policy finished a troubled fifth after a slow start in a time trial on Aug. 17, but was quick enough to gain the eighth-fastest qualifying time for the final. Rockin With Energy, who beat Bp Cartel Policy in the trials, had a troubled trip in Saturday’s final, stumbling slightly after the start.
Bp Cartel Policy has won 5 of 12 starts and earned $269,694. Earlier this year, Bp Cartel Policy won the $174,200 Los Alamitos Winter Derby in February and the $35,000 Dillingham Handicap for 3-year-olds at 400 yards in May.
