Stan Bowker has been named state steward for the Oaklawn Park meet that opens Jan. 15, the Arkansas Racing Commission announced. He replaces Gary Wilfert, who last month resigned from his position as state steward in Indiana. Bowker will work at Oaklawn with association stewards Larry Snyder and John Ferrara. Ferrara is currently a steward at Retama Park.\nBowker was an association steward last year at Oaklawn. He has more than 40 years of experience in the racing industry and for the past four years has been the chairman of the Racing Officials Accreditation Program. Bowker got his start in the sport in 1968 at Ak-Sar-Ben, where he served as director of racing for 12 years. He also is a past vice president and general manager of Canterbury Park and a former executive secretary of the Virginia Racing Commission.
