Bourbon County dominates 10,000 Lakes

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Heavily favored Bourbon County dusted his six Minnesota-bred rivals with relative ease in winning opening night's featured $60,000 10,000 Lakes by 7 1/2 lengths.
Trained by Bernell Rhone, Bourbon County ($3) pulled away when given his cue by jockey Dean Butler. The 5-year-old Dehere gelding was not fully extended when bounding clear from Speed Is Life's steady rally to garner place honors by a head over Lil' Apollo.
Bourbon County, who claimed the Minnesota Sprint Championship last August, looks set for another excellent campaign. Over a fast track, he covered six furlongs in 1:11.31.
Owned and bred by Rake Farms LLC, Bourbon County collected $36,000 for his connections. His stablemate Sky and Sea, the 2014 Canterbury Park Horse of the Meet, will aim to do the same in Saturday's $60,000 Lady Slipper Stakes.
